The Amsterdam Manifesto: A Catalyst for Change in Drug Policy

On 26 January 2024, the Dealing with Drugs – Cities and the Quest for Regulation conference took place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands marking a significant milestone in the global discourse on drug policy. The objective of the conference was to explore how - and not if - further regulation of the drug market can provide a solution, and which steps can be taken towards a more realistic approach of drug policy.

At the end of the conference mayor Femke Halsema launched the Amsterdam Dealing with Drugs Manifesto, stating that the conference should be the start for a coalition of those who want to strive for a more rational drug policy. The enthusiastic reception and endorsements it has already received are a testament to the collective desire for meaningful change.
