Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Identification and Retrieval of HCV Patients Lost to Follow-up in Spain
Direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) to treat hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection offer an opportunity to eliminate the disease.
A study, published in Gastroenterología y Hepatología, identified and relinked to care HCV patients previously lost to medical follow-up in the health area of Pontevedra and O Salnés, Spain using an artificial intelligence-assisted system.
By analyzing the big data from the different digital systems that integrate the electronic medical record, the study showed that artificial intelligence can identify and retrieve HCV patients who were lost to medical follow-up more quickly and efficiently than the manual and costly review of isolated databases.
